Review: Captive Prince Volume I

Re-read January 11 2017
---------------------------------
Oh, how I loved this.
Damen is crown prince of Akielos, when his father dies, his half brother drugs him, and sends him to the rival kingdom as a sex slave.
It is there that he is given to the crown prince of Vere, Laurent.
Laurent might be only 20 years old, but he is arrogant and seems to have no trouble controlling people and situations the way he wants them to be. Until he turns 21, his uncle, the Regent, rules Vere.
Damen doesn’t know what to think of Laurent. Damen was supposed to become a sex slave, but Laurent won’t touch him. Laurent has the reputation of being frigid, and Damen doesn’t know what to make of him.
Laurent is a true mastermind. He thinks at least 20 steps ahead, and when it seems that the entire court is out to kill him, he has to try and outsmart them. Damen offers his help, because he has nothing left to lose..
These two men have amazing UST from the start. They are definitely not friendly towards each other, so expect a lot of hate at first. Laurent has Damen flogged for example. But other than that, he is surprisingly lenient towards Damen.
There is a lot of violence in this, but I really liked how both Damen and Laurent were good people. Despite how Laurent tries to come across as cold and heartless, it is clear there is more to him than meets the eye.
What I liked most about this series is that nothing is as it seems. Lots of AHA! moments.
I loved this just as much as the first time I read it. I can't wait to read the rest.
Thanks to Wendy for this lovely BR. It’s great to read this with a friend to discuss theories.
