Review: Dark & Dazzling (Sassy Boyz #2)

Dark & Dazzling - Elizabeth Varlet

I’ve read a lot of reviews that say this second installment is dark. Way darker than the first one in the series. And for the first half of this story I didn’t get it. It didn’t feel all that dark at all, and I was enjoying it.

But then in the second half all the anger and relationship angst happened. And I didn’t like it.

I also read about dub-con/non-con, but no details, so I was prepared. But I also thought the non-con would happen

between the MCs, which it didn’t. It was Azariah trying to get money by participating in a porn shoot, which turned out to be a (real) rape scene.

(show spoiler)

And I was more okay with what happened than I thought beforehand.

But the thing that bothered me the most was how both Connelly and Azariah acted towards each other. I truly disliked Connelly and his need to fix everything. That would have been okay, if Azariah wanted that too, but Connelly fixed things behind Azariah’s back. And of course Azariah refused to ask for help, and got into more trouble because of it. Both stubborn in their own way, and I couldn’t help but think they just needed to talk more.

By the end of the book I wasn’t a big fan of either Connelly or Azariah.

I was prepared to hate this, which I didn’t. But I also didn’t really like it that much. It was okay, but if the rest of the books are like this, I’m going to quit and just cherish the first book.
