Stealing the Wind (Mermen of Ea #1)

Stealing the Wind (Mermen of Ea #1) - Shira Anthony I can see why people like this book, it just wasn’t for me.

Taren is sold to a tavern when he is around 18. He is not happy there, but is ‘rescued’ (read: kidnapped) by Rider, the captain of the Sea Witch. Rider has taken him to join him and his lover, Bastian, in their bed. Of course Taren is fine with that (I would so have a problem with this after being kidnapped, but okay).

When Taren gets lost at sea after a heavy storm, he gets rescued by Ian, Captain of the Phantom. It is there that Taren learns what he is, a shape-shifting merman.

This confused me somewhat. I was expecting more MINE in this shifter book. More possessiveness. But I felt as if Ian was constantly ‘giving’ Taren away.

I mean, he let him sleep with Rider and Bastian (sleep, not have sex, although Ian didn’t know that). And he was willing to give him up right at the end. Come on, Ian, claim your man!

What bothered me most about this book was the relationship between Taren, Rider and Bastian. I was so not okay with them educating Taren at the beginning of this book. It just felt wrong. It is made clear that Rider and Bastian are in love with each other and that Taren is just an extra. I can do a ménage in a book, but not like this.

My main issue with this book was that I wanted more focus on the romance. There were so many other things going on that I got confused a lot.

I don’t think this series is for me.
