I really likes this, but it had a tad more religion than I expected or felt comfortable with.

David is a 41 year old widower, who lives on a farm. He has two grown children, ages 19 and 21. He is so deep in the closet due to his Mennonite upbringing, he can’t even admit to himself he likes men more than women.

But then he gets a new neighbor. Christie is a 30 year old city boy, and David is immediately attracted to him.

The two strike up a friendship when Christie offers to cook for David when he is experimenting with new recipes. It’s not long before they are eating their meals together and just enjoying each other’s company.

I loved how this relationship developed nice and slow. Friendship first, then love, and sex. I also really liked how David was shy and in the closet, but never once pushes Christie away.

What I didn’t like was the oppressing feeling of David’s church. It didn’t bother me all that much how the pastor or the people from the church played a role in David’s life, but I hated how important the church was in the lives of David’s children.

I thoroughly disliked Joe and his beliefs (he was studying to be a minister), and the way he treated David at first. And even though Amy was nice, I just didn’t feel the bond David had with his kids. I don’t think David actually had a real bond with his kids. I didn’t feel the love. At all. This was explained by saying how they were raised according to the ways of the church. And that there gave me the creeps.

But other than that, I really liked this and was happy to see there was almost no relationship angst.
